A bridge is something that connects point to point, bridg ing boundaries. Howev er, it can also be seen as something that divides riv ers and lakes. On a map, it appears as a line, exhibit ing both connect ing and dividing aspects. But in reality , for those who cross it, a bridge is a surface w ith width. Architecture is divided by roads, and con versely, roads are divided by the v ertical walls of buildings. By t ilting the outer shell of the architecture, people can walk abov e, eliminating the divisions on the Earth ’s surface. Combining the macro direct ionality of a bridge w ith the micro direct ionality of an inclined surface, a surface is wov en together on Lake Biwa, where only the water (horizontal plane) exists, to draw a 13km line.
